African & Diaspora

Music rooted in the African diaspora and global rhythms. Afrobeat, highlife, Latin, and the sounds that don't sit neatly in any single tradition. Strut, Soundway, Mr Bongo, the labels doing the curatorial work.

Afrobeat starts with Fela Kuti And Africa 70, with Zombie, Expensive Shit, Gentleman and Shakara in stock, and continues through Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 and Brooklyn's Antibalas. Ghanaian highlife comes from Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Ethio-jazz from Mulatu Astatke, and Nigerian synth-funk from William Onyeabor.

There's Zambian rock from Witch, South African jazz from Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango's Africadelic, and contemporary artists including Mdou Moctar, Songhoy Blues, Ibibio Sound Machine and Nubiyan Twist. Everything ships Australia-wide from Melbourne.
