Mirage, released June 2021 on Research Records, is the debut release from Glass Beams, the Melbourne project of Rajan Silva, recorded in early 2020. Silva has traced its origins to a childhood memory of watching Concert For George, the George Harrison tribute film featuring Ravi Shankar's Indian Orchestra, with his parents on DVD. Once that memory clicked into a clear sense of what he wanted to write, the four tracks came together quickly. The record moves from a coiling vocal mantra and sliding bassline on the opener into spaghetti-western tones, space-jazz and psych-fusion guitar, inverting early-'70s prog jams into something more futuristic.
