Crashes In Love, reissued by Luaka Bop in November 2015, presents the original 1977 version of Nigerian industrialist and self-taught musician William Onyeabor's synth-funk album, distinct from a 1982 re-recording Luaka Bop issued separately. The title material ties to a film of the same name produced through Onyeabor's own Wilfilms company, described in his liner notes as the story of an African princess who turns her back on love money can buy. After 1985 Onyeabor became a born-again Christian and refused to discuss his music publicly, leaving Luaka Bop to piece together his story largely without his cooperation for their breakthrough 2013 compilation, Who Is William Onyeabor?
