Ifetayo, originally released in 1976 and reissued by Soundway in December 2011, is the sole studio album from Trinidad's Black Truth Rhythm Band, led by Oluko Imo. Formed in 1971, the group deliberately turned toward African rather than American funk influences, adopting African names and dress at a time when African records were genuinely hard to come by in the Caribbean. Imo played bass, kalimba, congas and flute and sang lead, fusing African and West Indian rhythms with jazz, funk, calypso and soul. The album went out of print for decades before this reissue; Imo later went on to collaborate directly with Fela Kuti in 1988 and performed with members of his Egypt 80 band.
