War’s sixth album, from 1973, is where the full seven-piece band’s collective songwriting really locks in — Howard Scott, B.B. Dickerson, Lonnie Jordan, Harold Brown, Papa Dee Allen, Charles Miller and Lee Oskar all credited together across most tracks. The extended ‘Gypsy Man’ and the water-themed instrumental ‘H2Overture’ anchor the record, while the original gatefold sleeve used metallic ink and a die-cut window that revealed different beach scenes depending on how you turned it.
