'Live' At The Apollo, recorded October 24, 1962 and released the following year on King Records, was paid for out of James Brown's own pocket after the label initially refused to release a live album with no new songs. Backed by the Famous Flames, Brown delivered a set that peaked at number two on the pop albums chart and spent 66 weeks there. The master tapes were considered lost for decades until jazz historian Phil Schaap recovered them in 1989.
