All Day Music, released November 1971 on United Artists, was War's fourth album and first major commercial breakthrough after splitting from Eric Burdon, recorded at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco and Crystal Sound in Los Angeles with producer Jerry Goldstein. "Slippin' into Darkness" spent 22 weeks on the Hot 100, tying for the most weeks charted of any single that year and going gold, while the album cracked the top ten and stayed on the chart for 39 weeks.
