Mudfoot, recorded June 1986 at Music Annex Recording Studio in Menlo Park, California, is the debut album from the Leaders, a jazz collective formed by Chico Freeman in 1983. This lineup pairs Freeman with Lester Bowie, Arthur Blythe, Cecil McBee and Kirk Lightsey, with Don Moye on drums. Alongside originals and a Freeman tribute to Eric Dolphy, the record closes with a vocal cover of Sam Cooke's "Cupid."
