Phase II, released on Mercury, was recorded at Bohannon's regular studio, The Sound Pit in Atlanta, with Hamilton Bohannon writing, producing and arranging every track himself. Guitarist Ray Parker Jr. and Melvin "Wah Wah" Ragin sit in among a deep Atlanta session crew, driving the record's steady, disco-inflected funk grooves built around Bohannon's signature four-on-the-floor rhythm approach. Lead single "Bohannon's Disco Symphony" reached the R&B chart, and the album peaked at number 46.
