Funkadelic's most commercially successful record, released September 1978 on Warner Bros. and topping the R&B albums chart, marked keyboardist Walter “Junie” Morrison's first appearance with the band alongside Bootsy Collins and guitarists Mike Hampton and Gary Shider. Academic Bill Martin has argued the record owes as much to progressive rock as to soul, Hendrix-style fuzzed guitar running through material clearly built for the dancefloor. It went platinum and later placed 177th on Rolling Stone's all-time albums list.
