The Comet Is Coming’s third and, as it turned out, final album pushes their jazz-and-electronics fusion further into science-fiction territory — synthesizers, crunching bass and Shabaka Hutchings’ saxophone treated more like an alien transmission than a jazz horn. Mastered by Daddy Kev and released on Impulse! in 2022, the eleven tracks lean harder into the trio’s heaviest, most maximalist tendencies than their earlier records did, closing out their run on the label’s biggest canvas yet.
