Wu Hen, released July 2020 on Kamaal Williams's own Black Focus label, was finished in Morocco during lockdown and named for his maternal grandmother's nickname for him. The record defines what Williams calls Wu Funk, a blend of jazz, hip-hop, R&B and house that moves further from his jazz-funk sound. He's described the album as about understanding a higher entity behind the universe, made partly in response to xenophobic attacks East Asian communities faced during the pandemic.
