Altera Vita, released April 2024 on BBE, is the first studio album from saxophonist Tony Kofi, a regular live member of Cymande, and harpist Alina Bzhezhinska as a duo. Recorded over two days at Fish Factory Studios in London, with Muriel Grossmann contributing tanpura remotely from Ibiza, the record is dedicated to Pharoah Sanders, whose influence on both musicians deepened after they shared a stage with him at the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival. Its Latin-titled tracks trace a loose arc from "Tabula Rasa," meaning blank slate, through to the title track, "another life."
