The Budos Band, released in 2005 on Daptone Records, is the instrumental Brooklyn group's self-titled debut, formed out of a jam session Martin Perna of Antibalas hosted at the Five Spot in Fort Greene. Recorded and mixed at Daptone Studios by Gabriel Roth, the eleven tracks fuse Afrobeat, Ethio-jazz and funk into a heavy, horn-driven sound, an early flagship release for the label. The cover uses a 1984 photograph of a lava vent at Hawaii's Kilauea volcano.
