Renascence, released 2022, is Cymande's comeback album, arriving decades after the London band's brief early-1970s run and years of being better known through hip-hop sampling than their own records. Two of the group's original members had died by the time it was made, and the record rebuilds their old sound: Rasta-inflected spirituality, African-rooted percussion, Curtis Mayfield-style conscious funk, thickened with liquid guitar lines and strings.
