Soul Supreme made this 2023 album while locked in a legal dispute over ownership of his own masters against a Norwegian producer and label — and rather than sit on the frustration, he wrote seventeen tracks around it, several named directly for courtroom fixtures (“Taking The Stand,” “All Rise”). He's called the record “a positive outlet for what is a very negative event,” and it plays that way — energetic and groove-forward rather than bitter, the whole dispute turned into subject matter instead of an excuse to sit it out.
