Wait Til I Get Over, released May 2023 on Dead Oceans, is Durand Jones's first album under his own name, built around Hillaryville, Louisiana, the historic Black freedmen's settlement where he grew up in a family of longshoremen and farmers. He wrote and recorded the title track alone in a San Antonio bedroom, layering his own voice to build a choir sound rather than bringing in a group. Elsewhere the band cut songs live, jamming until Jones found his moment to step in. One track, his first breakup song, doubles as the only love song he's written for another man.
