There's A Riot Goin' On, released November 1971 on Epic, was recorded largely alone by Sly Stone overdubbing most instruments himself, using an early Maestro Rhythm King drum machine layered with live drums. Guests on "Family Affair" include Billy Preston and Ike Turner. The single topped the pop chart and the album reached number one on the Billboard 200, following an eighteen-month gap after Stand! marked by escalating tension within the band.
