I Wanna Get Down, released 1980 on Cotillion, is a Southern soul record from Birmingham, Alabama singer C.L. Blast, recorded across Malaco Studios in Jackson, Mississippi, Criteria in Miami and Boutwell Recording in Birmingham. Frederick Knight, the Stax-era singer-songwriter who wrote and produced Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell," produced and engineered the session, with backing vocals from the noted Memphis trio Rhodes-Chalmers-Rhodes. Blast remained a regional, largely cult figure throughout his career.
