Fresh, released June 1973 on Epic, is Sly Stone's sixth album with the Family Stone, written, produced and arranged entirely by Stone himself except for a cover of "Qué Será, Será," the group's only cover on an original studio LP. The record took roughly two years to finish and used varispeed technology to pitch-shift vocals throughout. Miles Davis reportedly played the track "In Time" on repeat for thirty minutes, a widely cited anecdote about its rhythmic density.
