Quinn Oulton named his debut after a word for difficulty identifying and describing your own emotions, and built the record as a linear narrative moving through obsession, grief, false hope and eventual acceptance. ‘A lot of people, particularly men, struggle to recognise and process their own emotions,’ he’s said — the album functions almost as a working-through, sad and melancholic music as its own form of emotional literacy. Oulton came up on saxophone under Julian Joseph and Soweto Kinch before a stint at the Red Bull Music Academy studying under Just Blaze and Mike Banks reshaped his production instincts. Moses Boyd and Genevieve Artadi both feature here.
