Body Heat, released May 1974 on A&M, became Quincy Jones's highest-charting album to that point, reaching number six on the Billboard 200. Produced by Jones with Ray Brown, the record pulls in Herbie Hancock and Billy Preston on keys and vocalists Al Jarreau and Minnie Riperton, marking a deliberate pivot from Jones's soundtrack and big-band work toward mainstream commercial soul. Singles "Boogie Joe the Grinder" and "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" carried the record's crossover ambitions.
