A Funky Thide Of Sings, released 1975 on Atlantic, has Billy Cobham leading a band that includes a young John Scofield on guitar and the Brecker Brothers on horns, recorded across sessions in San Francisco, Philadelphia and London. The album's centerpiece, "A Funky Kind of Thing," is a roughly nine-minute drum solo cut in a single take with no overdubbing, a showcase for Cobham's technical range within an otherwise tightly arranged set of jazz-funk.
