Heads, released October 1977, was the first release on Bob James's own Tappan Zee label, distributed through Columbia and recorded at Mediasound and A&R Recording in New York. The session lineup runs deep, Steve Gadd, Eric Gale, David Sanborn and Grover Washington Jr. among them, backing six tracks that include covers of songs by Boz Scaggs and Peter Frampton. The album reached number one on the jazz albums chart.
