I Put A Spell On You, recorded in New York and released in 1965 on Philips, features Nina Simone on vocals and piano with guitarist Rudy Stevenson and conductors Horace Ott and Hal Mooney. The album draws on Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour and Anthony Newley alongside Stevenson originals, with the title track reworking Screamin' Jay Hawkins' original into a slower, more haunted ballad arrangement, a reading that became one of Simone's signature performances.
