Scott-Heron's second album and final release for Flying Dutchman, recorded over two days in March 1972 with producer Bob Thiele. Brian Jackson anchors the first side on piano, flute and vocals alongside guitarist David Spinozza, bassist Gerald Jemmott and drummer Bernard Purdie; side two drops the full band for a looser session built around Jackson's flute and percussion. Black pride, police brutality and cultural appropriation run through the lyrics, continuing directly from his 1971 debut Pieces Of A Man.
