African Dub All-Mighty: Chapter One, the first in Joe Gibbs's numbered dub series from the mid-1970s, gathers twelve tracks cut and mixed at Joe Gibbs Recording Studios, engineered by Errol Thompson though credited to Gibbs himself. The actual playing came from members of Soul Syndicate, We the People and the Revolutionaries, reworking vocal cuts from Studio One and artists including Ken Boothe, Burning Spear and Bob Andy into stripped-down dub versions. Standouts include "Campus Rock," a dub of Dennis Brown's "Let Me Live," and "Treasure Dub," built from the Jamaicans' rocksteady classic "Ba Ba Boom," the record that effectively opened the four-volume series.
