High Pulp are a Seattle-based jazz-fusion collective, and Days In The Desert was their debut for Anti- Records, released in 2023. Ten tracks move between heavy fusion riffing, electronic production and looser, more spacious jazz playing, guest musicians giving the record a different feel from track to track rather than settling into one mode throughout. It’s a record that treats genre as optional — jazz chops filtered through a band raised as much on hip-hop production and psych rock as straight-ahead swing, restless in a way that keeps it from settling into easy background listening.
