Studio legend holds that George Clinton ran the whole session on acid, though nobody's ever nailed that down for certain. What's clear is Eddie Hazel's guitar, plainly indebted to Hendrix, tearing through nine minutes of title-track sprawl while the band churns beneath him in full psychedelic-funk mode. Original listeners reportedly found it baffling, wanting something to dance to rather than a record this loose and heavy. This ORG Music pressing on Westbound brings it back to vinyl, sounding just as far ahead of itself as it did then.
