Glorious Game, released April 2023 on Big Crown Records, pairs Black Thought with El Michels Affair's Leon Michels across twelve tracks built from an unusual method: Michels wrote and recorded full soul songs himself first, then sampled and reworked his own performances into the beats. A few tracks add outside samples and live playing on top. There are no guest verses and no chasing of trends, just Black Thought's dense, plainspoken writing moving through gratitude, fame's downsides and childhood memory over loop-based, bottom-heavy production. As Black Thought put it, "What I write about is determined by the equation of the producer's energy and my energy. It's about where we meet."
