Cut in a single session on August 27, 1962, with Sonny Clark, Butch Warren and Billy Higgins behind him, Go! is often named among Gordon's best records — deliberately loose and unshowy, closer to a working band's regular set than a one-off studio date. Liner notes writer Ira Gitler described that relaxed atmosphere directly at the time. The Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry in 2019, citing its cultural and historical significance.
