Threat To Creation, first released on Cherry Red in 1981, brings together Creation Rebel and New Age Steppers under producer Adrian Sherwood, with a lineup that reads like a UK post-punk who's-who: Bruce Smith of The Pop Group on drums, Keith Levene of PIL on guitar, Ari Up of The Slits on piano and organ, plus Crucial Tony and members of African Head Charge rounding things out. The eight tracks fuse Jamaican dub heritage with the era's industrial and studio experimentation, a sound that helped define the On-U Sound axis linking London's dub scene to Bristol's post-punk underground. Decades on, it still sounds like it's arriving from somewhere slightly ahead of its own moment.
