Aretha, released September 1980 on Arista, was Franklin's first album after twelve years with Atlantic and reunited her with producer Arif Mardin for the first time since 1973, alongside co-producer Chuck Jackson. Session players David Foster, Jeff Porcaro and Louis Johnson back a set that includes a cover of "What a Fool Believes." Lead single "United Together" gave Franklin her first R&B top ten hit since 1977.
