Tale Spinnin', released 1975 on Columbia, was recorded at Wally Heider Studios in Los Angeles with Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter and bassist Alphonso Johnson. Drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler was brought in after Zawinul heard him playing next door with Carlos Santana's band; a one-session tryout stretched into a week that produced the whole record, though Chancler ultimately chose to stay with Santana rather than join Weather Report full-time.
