Country Preacher, recorded live in 1969 and released the following year on Capitol, documents a Chicago church gathering for Operation Breadbasket, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference economic program led by Rev. Jesse Jackson, who delivers the album's spoken introduction. Cannonball Adderley's quintet, with brother Nat on cornet and Joe Zawinul on keyboards, plays through six tracks including "Walk Tall" and the title cut, and Adderley wrote the liner notes explaining Operation Breadbasket's mission himself.
