Newmanism, recorded 1973-74 at Atlantic's New York studios and released on Atlantic, backs David "Fathead" Newman's saxophone and flute with Roy Ayers on vibraphone, Ron Carter on bass and Pat Rebillot on electric piano. The eight tracks are mostly Newman originals, three co-written with Rebillot and two with Ayers, continuing the soul-jazz direction Newman had built since his years in Ray Charles's band.
