Afrikan Culture, released May 2022 on Impulse!, is Shabaka Hutchings's first release under the solo name Shabaka, arriving after his work fronting Sons of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming. Billed as his major-label debut, the EP moves toward a more meditative, less horn-forward sound than his earlier bands, centered on flute and spiritually inflected themes drawn from the African diaspora. It set the stage for his subsequent full-length work as Shabaka.
