Prism, released October 2022 on Karma Chief/Colemine, is the debut album from Say She She, an all-female discodelic soul group fronted by three lead vocalists, Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham and Nya Gazelle Brown. Recorded largely in basement studios during the pandemic on vintage tape machines, the eight tracks pull from late-'70s girl-group harmony, Donna Summer-style disco and touches of funk and world music, with backing from musicians tied to the Dap-Kings, Chicano Batman and Antibalas. Victor Axelrod and Joey Crispiano of the Dap-Kings handled much of the production, giving the record a warm, analog studio sound throughout.
