No Time For Dreaming, released January 2011 on Daptone/Dunham, was Charles Bradley's debut album, arriving when he was 62 years old after decades performing as a James Brown tribute act under the name Black Velvet while working as a plumber. Backed by the Menahan Street Band, several songs began as lyrics Bradley improvised on the spot during a rehearsal producer Thomas Brenneck invited him to. He had been discovered performing in Brooklyn clubs shortly before.
