Killing Me Softly, released August 1973 on Atlantic and produced by Joel Dorn over roughly eighteen months, is dedicated to Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Recorded with Eric Gale, Ron Carter and Grady Tate, with string arrangements by Eumir Deodato, the title track topped the Hot 100 and won the 1974 Grammy for Record of the Year. The album itself reached number three on the Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum.
