The Path, released 1978 on Marlin Records, is Ralph MacDonald's second solo album, produced by MacDonald with William Eaton and William Salter. Side one is an eighteen-minute three-part suite tracing African-American music from tribal drumming through blues, jazz and funk, arranged by Eaton and Arthur Jenkins Jr. The session lineup includes Steve Gadd, Eric Gale, Richard Tee and Toots Thielemans, alongside MacDonald's regular percussion work.
