Otis Blue, recorded in a single marathon session on July 9 and 10, 1965 at Stax studios in Memphis with Booker T. & the M.G.'s backing him, is widely regarded as Otis Redding's first fully realized album. Of its eleven tracks, three are Redding originals, including "Respect," three are Sam Cooke covers recorded shortly after Cooke's death, and the rest are soul standards reworked in his voice. It topped the R&B albums chart and sold over 250,000 copies.
