Angel, released March 1977 on Mercury, is the Ohio Players' ninth album and sixth for the label, self-produced and recorded at Paragon and CRC Studios in Chicago. The band had expanded to eight members with the addition of rhythm guitarist Clarence "Chet" Willis, and the record reached number nine on the Soul LPs chart. Single "O-H-I-O" became a concert staple built around audience call-and-response, ahead of the more modest "Body Vibes" and "Merry Go Round."
