Romantic Journey, released 1977 on Buddah Records and produced by Skip Drinkwater, backs drummer-turned-bandleader Norman Connors with Lee Ritenour, Gary Bartz and Pharoah Sanders. The record reached number twenty-four on the R&B albums chart and includes a cover of Sanders's own "Thembi" alongside "You Are Everything," written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed. Connors, a former jazz drummer, drew some jazz-press criticism for the album's smoother, vocal-driven direction.
