Shadow Work, released November 2017 on Gondwana Records, is Norwich trio Mammal Hands' third album, recorded at 80 Hertz Studios in Manchester after eighteen months of heavy touring and writing. The ten tracks blend spiritual jazz with north Indian and folk influences, carrying over the energy of their live shows while also making room for a quieter, more reflective side than their earlier records showed. Saxophonist Jordan Smart, pianist Nick Smart and drummer Jesse Barrett built the record around long-form improvisation, and that wider emotional range, moving between meditative stillness and driving momentum, has become one of the group's defining traits.
