A State Of Flow, released May 2019, expands Ishmael Ensemble's Bristol-rooted sound outward, bringing in vocalists Holysseus Fly and Yama Warashi alongside horn player Yazz Ahmed to explore what the band frames as "the flow of water, of time, of cultural exchange." The record moves between spiritual jazz, ambient passages, club-ready percussion and hazy electronica, with "Yellow House" built around Yama Warashi singing in Japanese and tracks like "Full Circle" leaning into trip-hop-adjacent grooves. The Guardian named it Contemporary Album of the Month and MOJO called it Jazz Album of the Month on release.
