Discothèque, recorded 1974 and 1975 in New York and released on Atlantic, has Herbie Mann's flute set against a dense session band arranged by keyboardist Pat Rebillot, with Steve Gadd on drums, Tony Levin on bass and Cissy Houston among the backing vocalists. The record chased the disco sound directly, trading Mann's earlier jazz-Latin fusion for dancefloor-focused instrumentals and a title that made its commercial intentions plain. It was later reissued by Rhino in 2005 and BBR in 2013.
