Recorded January 30, 1970 at Van Gelder Studio, this is Green pushing further into jazz-funk than his earlier straight-ahead records, Blue Mitchell's trumpet and Claude Bartee's tenor sax joined by Candido Camero and Richie “Pablo” Landrum on conga and bongos. Critic Steve Huey called it Green settling comfortably into harder, funkier R&B after some initial skepticism about the direction, a successful reinvention rather than a compromise. Emmanuel Riggins and Neal Creque split organ duties across the session.
