Recorded in 1963 but held back until 1965, Idle Moments pairs Green with Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Duke Pearson and Bob Cranshaw for a session built around the nearly fifteen-minute title track. Producer Alfred Lion refused to trim the piece despite its length, forcing two other songs to be re-recorded shorter to fit the LP. Scott Yanow later named it a hard bop essential, its slow-burning melody considered among the finest guitar playing of the era.
