Fanfares, GoGo Penguin's debut album, was recorded in January 2012 at The Lodge Recording Studio and released that November on Gondwana Records, with a vinyl edition following in 2014. The Manchester trio of pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Grant Russell and drummer Rob Turner built seven original compositions across a lean thirty-five minutes, drawing as readily on Aphex Twin and Brian Eno as on Debussy, Shostakovich and Massive Attack. The record picked up early champions in Gilles Peterson and BBC Music, and earned the trio a nomination for Best Jazz Album at the 2013 Worldwide Awards.
